When Beyonce admitted followed cayenne pepper and maple syrup diet before filming Dreamgirls, many experts in weight loss, horrified by the extreme regime.

But new research suggests it may have been no scientific sense, the concept of using a spice to enhance the metabolic activity. According to a study by Penn State University, adding a combination of turmeric, cinnamon had, rosemary, oregano, garlic powder and paprika a significant effect on the participants the results of blood. The researchers analyzed the effect of antioxidant-rich spice blend of six men who are overweight, but healthy, aged between 30 and 65.
They found that adding a dose of 14 grams of the mixture to a 1200 calorie lunch caused an immediate reduction in insulin levels and triglycerides.
Blood samples of participants were taken every 30 minutes to four hours after a meal and a meal compared to normal control participants insulin levels fell by 21 percent and triglyceride levels in a 31 percent.
There was no effect on blood sugar, but the antioxidant activity was 13 percent higher in each sample of blood after spicy food.
The researchers wrote: "These significant effects were likely the result of the high concentration of phenolic antioxidants in spices.
They added that the levels of antioxidants in spices were similar to 5 oz of wine or 1.4 ounces of dark chocolate.
Sheila West, who led the study, told ABC News: "like spices can be important antioxidants to reduce oxidative stress and thereby reduce the risk of chronic diseases." -MOL
Dr. Ralph Abraham, a consultant in diabetes and endocrinology at the Medical Center of London, said the results are worthy of further investigation, using different combinations of smaller spice mixture to identify the aromas are important.
He told the Mail Online: "The work is reminiscent of the discovery of the beneficial effects of cinnamon on glucose tolerance, which led to many patients, ill-disposed to drug treatments, and add 1-2 tablespoons of cinnamon powder for tea or coffee.
